WRITING WORKSHOPS FOR
16-25 YEAR OLDS
This project aims to use art as a vehicle to voice women’s stories, and to encourage greater support and recognition for talented women from diverse backgrounds. Emerging writing talents from Birmingham, Brick Lane and Bangladesh will be paired with established writers who will provide support and mentor them. Untold stories will be revealed through different written forms - scripts, short stories, articles and blogs, any medium and style is welcome.
The project is being developed in close partnership with Sampad Arts - an established arts organisation in Birmingham - and Rich Mix, a popular and diverse arts venue in East London. The project will be led by Leesa Gazi, writer, actor and founding member of Komola.
Participants can write about their lives, experiences around their city, stories about growing up, their perspective on today’s world - anything. During the workshop session, Leesa will help participants to explore their ideas, to think freely and give guidance to write about them. After the session, we will ask writers to produce a piece of around 600 – 800 words. Following the workshops, some writers will be invited to proceed to the next stage of the project – which could result in a rehearsed reading of their piece.
